Human Values in School Education 
 Prof Chakraborty, earned his PhD in Management and Social Sciences as a Common Wealth Scholar from Liverpool University in 1970. He started post-graduate teaching at Calcutta University in 1962 and retired from IIM Calcutta in 2003. He had founded the Management Centre for Human Values within IIMC in 1995.

He had taught at various Universities in India and abroad e.g. Burdwan, Liverpool, Stockholm, Darmstada, California Institute of legal studies, Royal Melborne Institute of Technology etc. He has participated on invitation in numerous conferences in many parts of the world e.g. Guangzhou, Kualalampur, Manila, Generva, Madrid, Tokyo, Edinburg, Toronto, Washington DC etc.  

He continues to be a freelance teacher in the academic and corporate sectors. He is a Member of the Board of Governors of IIM-Indore, and Chairman (Hony.) Advisory Council of the Society for Integration of Spirituality and Organisations of Leadership (ISOL). Earlier he had been a Member of the Board of four public sector companies and three GOI committees also.

Hes has been the founder-editor of three journals: Decision and Journal of Human Values at IIMC; and Shradha at the Sri Aurobindo Samiti. He authored over 34 books – either as sole author/editor, or as joint author/editor. A couple of them had won national awards.

Ms Meena Kak

She did her M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry) from Christ Church College, Kanpur in 1978 and also has a Bachelor of Education.  She adopted the teaching profession not by chance, but by choice.  She feels she has achieved what she dreamt, but satisfaction leads to stagnation, so her motto is ‘miles to go before I sleep.’

Focused in life and believer of horizontal as well as vertical professional growth, she worked as PGT Chemistry teacher at Pitts’ Modern School, Gomia, Bihar from January 1980 to May 1997.   Worked as Principal at Harley’s High School, Kolkata from August 1997 to June 2004 and then at Ashok Hall Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Kolkata from July 2004 to May 2007.  Presently, Principal of Lakshmipat Singhania Academy since June 2007.   She is always kept in high esteem by her students, colleagues and seniors for her positive attitude, perseverance, passion for work and punctuality.

She believes in preparing young minds to face the challenges of life with grit and determination.  She trains students to take care of underprivileged and old.  Donating a large sum to HelpAge India and sending children to slums to educate them of healthy living conditions, shows her concern for the society and also trains students to take care of environment.  She supports the idea of inducting children with special needs into main stream for formal learning. She introduced innovative methods of teaching integrated system of teaching, research method, Quality circle and micro teaching in the schools where she worked. Experimenting with teaching practices is her forte.

She has been appointed as Co-ordinator of CBSE examination and evaluation work for eight years.  She is on the Inspection Committee for schools applying for affiliation from CBSE. Was City-Cordinator for JEE (Main) and CTET.  She accompanied students on exchange programme to Germany and USA.  Visited UK universities to study the undergraduate and postgraduate courses sponsored by the British Council.  She is member of the Managing Committee for Sushila Birla Girls’ School.

Received CBSE National Award from Ministry of Human Resource, New Delhi in 2007 for contribution in the field of education. Was awarded the ‘Bharat Shiksha Ratan Award’ from the ‘Global Society for Health & Educational Growth’, New Delhi.  Was also awarded the ‘Shiksha Rattan Puraskar’ along with Certificate of Excellence from India International Friendship Society.  Received the ‘National Award for Teachers 2010’ on Teachers’ Day 2011 from the Hon’ble President of India. Received Certificate of Appreciation from ‘Commerce Talent Search Examination Foundation’ for encouraging participation and conducting 9th National CTE Test (2014-15), Award from Pariwar Milan for her dedication and services in the field of Education.

Dr. Dass is a leading Educationist and Career-Consultant of the country. She is the Founder-Director of ICS-International (Established in 1985) and has the distinction of pioneering the career counselling and guidance services in the country. She is also the Chairperson and Managing Director of ICS Education Ltd. 
Dr. Dass is a consultant for a number of leading schools of the country. She has also designed and conducted numerous training programmes on Leadership for Edu-Leaders focusing on Leadership in Education and on Excellence in Education for Teachers. In addition, she has conducted Leadership Programmes for corporates both national and multinationals. Mr. R. S. Jhawar has been associated with Williamson Magor Group in various capacities for about 5 decades. During his tenure of employment with Williamson Magor & Co. Limited, he held senior positions in Finance and General Management and gained valuable experience in corporate finance, lending, investment and other aspects of corporate management. Mr. Jhawar was a Whole-time Director of Williamson Magor & Co. Limited till 31st March, 2008. He possesses considerable experience in Tea Industry. He was the Chairman of Indian Tea Association for two consecutive terms and was also the Vice Chairman of the Tea Board.

Case study – Sri Arobindo Inspired school 
Mr. Ranjan K. Mitter is the Secretary of Sri Aurobindo Institute of Culture, an eminent not for profit educational, cultural, social and research institution in Kolkata. Concurrently, he is also Principal of The Future Foundation School. Mr Mitter is a member of the Standing Committee on Examinations of the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations since 2002 and has catalysed a number of teacher training initiatives from the Council.
Mr Mitter teaches at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, (since 2000), where he has developed curricula on Business Ethics for students. He also teaches course like “Entrepreneurship in NGOs”. Moreover, Mr. Mitter has pioneered training programmes on ‘Educational Leadership’ for heads of educational institutions. Mr. Mitter is on the Governing body of The Institute of Business Management run by National Council of Education under the auspices of Jadavpur University.
He has Co-directed and or been a resource person in workshops for ICSE/CBSE Heads at IIMC. He was also Lead Speaker at the CBSE Gulf Conference 2011 at Kuwait and also at several CBSE Sahodaya Conferences. He is a member of the Education Sub-Committee of CII (ER).
Mr Mitter has been a member of the Corporate Citizenship Sub-committee set up by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry during its 150th anniversary. He has lectured for two successive years on Business Ethics at the European Summer School for Advanced Management, Aarhus, Denmark, and consults with major multinationals in Europe and India.
His services have been sought by leading national and international business schools and he has addressed various national and international fora of repute. He has been nominated as a member of the Regional Advisory Committee of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
Mr. Mitter is closely associated with the Fair Trade Movement. He is President of Sasha EDF, a fair trade NGO in Eastern India. He has spoken at the World Social Forum in Mumbai and offered the keynote address at the International Federation of Alternative Trade’s Asia Conference in Hanoi in 2004.

In the past Mr Mitter has held top management positions in Indian industry in organizations like Philips, Titan, Shaw Wallace and Polaroid. He has also worked abroad in the headquarters of NV Philips in Eindhoven. Mr. Mitter did his schooling from St. Xavier's Collegiate School and is an engineering graduate from Jadavpur University. He did his Masters' in Engineering from BITS, Pilani and his Masters in Business Administration from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. He has to his credit a Bachelor of Education degree from IGNOU.

Dr. Smarajit Dey is an Education and Management Consultant with over 35-years of experience in both academic and corporate environments. He has worked at all levels in the education domain (schools to universities, professional and vocational), primarily in the areas of management of education services, technology-enabled learning, employability enhancement and industry-academia linkages. 
Dr Dey served as President of the Education business at NIIT Ltd – one of the largest for-profit education and training companies in the world – for many years, managing an operation with 500,000 students-on-rolls in 32 countries. Responsible for new business incubation at NIIT Ltd, Dr Dey founded the country’s first venture in Online Education, and also founded entities in Banking & Financial Services Education (joint venture with ICICI Bank), and Management Education (in association with the IIMs). Dr Dey was instrumental in setting-up NIIT University at Neemrana, Rajasthan, and serves on its Board.
Among other affiliations, Dr Dey has been a member of the Executive Board of the Association of Indian Management Schools, an Adviser to the ISC council (CISCE), a Consultant to the Ministry of HRD, a member of West Bengal government’s IT Task Force, and authored the first study of Computerisation in Indian Banks. G.Gautama BTech (IIT Madras) works as the Director - Secretary of the Palar Centre for Learning (comprising Pathashaala school, Outreach programs and a Krishnamurti study centre). 
He was Principal of The School, KFI from 1991 to 2009, where he initiated and guided several initiatives such as Mixed Age Group Learning in Junior and Middle school, a dynamic wide learning programme for High School students, establishing a short term Teacher Training programme as well as the design and development of the new residential school called Pathashaala. He supported the development of Active Learning Methodologies for TN SSA which was adopted by 16500 Government schools of Tamilnadu in classes 6,7,8.

Mr. Mason has been a teacher for fifty years. He taught at La Martiniere and was Head of St. James' School, Calcutta, The Modern High School, Dubai, and the Doon School, Dehra Dun. For a few years he was Head of Asian Schools in Dubai, supervising Indian schools in the Gulf while establishing schools in India for an education company, the Varkey Group.
